53 Years Later, New York Wins Again — Meet MyNYC
New York is the greatest city in the world. Finding your way through it shouldn’t be the hardest part. MyNYC is an independent platform built to connect New Yorkers with services, opportunities, neighborhoods and each other.
We’re actively curating borough-by-borough resources, checking official links and developing tools for live city updates, local discovery, reporting problems and community action. Through Ask5 and NYC 1 Million, our vision is simple: turn questions into answers, ideas into collective action and city pride into measurable progress.
Good News Across NYC
Five reasons to celebrate what’s moving forward:
1. Child care expands: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul announced 10,000 additional free 2-K seats for fall 2027, extending coverage to every borough and all Bronx and Staten Island districts. Read the announcement.
2. The David Prize is open: Five New Yorkers can each receive $200,000 to pursue bold ideas for the city. Applications are open through November 30. Apply.
3. More ways to ride: Citi Bike added over 230 stations in seven Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods. See the expansion.
4. Help for pets and people: Free dog and cat food is now available at 22 city-funded pantries across all five boroughs. Find participating pantries.
5. The lights stay on: Free late-night soccer is back at one park in each borough, with fall sessions and more scheduled for spring and summer 2027. Explore NYC Open Play.
Knicks Ring Night: 53 Years, One New York
On October 20, Madison Square Garden celebrated the Knicks’ first NBA title since 1973. The 2026 champions conquered San Antonio, and the ring ceremony belongs to generations who kept believing.
It’s also a uniquely New York story. Jamaican-born Patrick Ewing inspired Caribbean families who saw possibility in his rise. Brooklyn-born Carmelo Anthony, proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, gave another generation a hometown star. Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, whose mother is Jamaican, carries that connection into the present. Jordan Clarkson became the first Filipino-American player to win an NBA championship.
Different histories. Different languages. One city. The Knicks’ victory is a reminder that our melting pot isn’t an abstract idea; it’s what fills our streets, our stands and our dreams.
City Opportunity: Get Paid to Clear Snow
NYC Sanitation is recruiting emergency snow shovelers for temporary storm-response work. Pay starts at $30 an hour, rising to $45 after 40 hours in a week. Applicants must be at least 18, authorized to work and able to handle demanding outdoor labor. The next listed registration event is October 24 in Brooklyn.

Affordable Housing: More Doors Opening
In East New York, 386 permanently affordable homes have opened at Innovative Urban Village, while construction progresses on 453 more, plus a child care facility. It’s one step toward keeping New Yorkers in the neighborhoods they call home.
Looking for a place? Explore current opportunities, check income requirements and submit an application through NYC Housing Connect, HPD’s official affordable-housing portal. New lotteries have their own deadlines and eligibility rules.
A stronger New York starts with informed, connected New Yorkers. That’s what MyNYC is here to build.
